Samsara Eco
The Circular Generation

Modern civilisation is built on Earth’s natural resources. Resources that are finite. Yet defying logic, for decades we have treated them as infinite. We take. Make. Waste. Repeat. Plastics are the perfect illustration. Cheap, versatile, embedded in every sector of the global economy. Yet the molecules that create them are treated as disposable. We continue to draw from finite reserves while valuable material waste away above ground. Five years ago, we founded Samsara Eco to break this linear take-make-waste model. To challenge the idea that waste is inevitable and extraction is the only way forward. Instead, materials already in circulation can be reborn with full economic value –creating a continuous rebirth for our finite resources, just as our name, Samsara, suggests. In five years, we’ve demonstrated that this is not theoretical. With AI-designed enzymes, even complex and mixed plastics can be reborn again and again without losing performance or additional extraction. But the linear model doesn’t just define plastics. It defines almost every material resource we rely on for modern life. We mine, we refine, we throw away – on repeat. The result is structural fragility – economic, environmental and geopolitical.
The economics of circularity
There’s no denying it – this is a planetary problem. But in the current climate, it’s far more than that. Circularity is an economic imperative. Material security now shapes national competitiveness and industrial resilience. Supply chains have become concentrated. Raw material flows have become politicised. Disruptions ripple through industries, balance sheets and national economies with unprecedented speed. A linear system exposes nations and businesses to volatility, regulatory risk, stranded value and strategic dependence. A circular system does the opposite. It improves resource efficiency, strengthens supply chains, reduces sovereign risk and creates new material sources. It is competitiveness. It is resilience. It is smart risk management. And it’s why countries like Australia, where we’re headquartered, have set targets to increase circularity. Doubling our circularity rate to just 8% would add an estimated $26 billion to the nation’s GDP.1 Imagine the economic impact for larger economies. This all makes circularity impossible to ignore.
Establishing new material sources
At the heart of Samsara Eco is our belief in enzymes – nature’s catalysts, and when precisely designed with the help of AI, and plugged into industrial processes, they can rescue the most important molecules that power our material world far beyond plastics. We’ve been incubating this idea in our Innovation Garage – using our AI-powered enzyme platform to engineer entirely new classes of proteins and enzymes for other types of plastics but also other finite resources we depend on for everyday life. We’ve had game-changing discoveries already. The first in critical minerals – using our AI platform to design proteins like we do with plastics, to extract and restore critical minerals from end-of-life products. The potential here to open new critical mineral reserves and address one of the defining sovereign risks of our generation is astronomical. The second is looking at how enzymes can capture carbon from industrial byproducts, again turning waste into value. These developments are early, but the impact is generational.
The circular generation The world is a very different place to 2021. Some good, a lot, very questionable. But it's clear, the world order of the last fifty years won’t apply to the next fifty. The raw materials that power everyday life will become infinitely more valuable. And circularity won't be optional. It will be the only viable economic model. Yes, the change won’t be instant – no industrial change happens overnight. But the right systems, legislations and technology are coming online. Businesses, nations and industries are understanding the true value of circularity and what’s at stake. We simply can’t continue socialising the cost of waste while capitalising on the profit. We can be the circular generation – the generation that makes circularity the rule, not the exception. Redefining the value of our raw material. Strengthening industries. And bettering our planet. This is a future worth building. Thank you to our investors, partners, customers and government supporters who have helped us reach this point. None of this would be possible without your backing and support. And of course, to our team, who have worked tirelessly to turn this vision into reality. Five years is a milestone for any company. But for an innovator reshaping industrial systems that have defined the better half of a century, it’s merely the foundation.
Here's to the next five.
